The USS Pampanito submarine docked at Pier 45, Fisherman's Wharf is a national historic landmark and a popular tourist attraction of San Francisco.
The World War II Balao class Fleet submarine which sank six Japanese ships and damaged four others has now been converted into a museum and memorial that is open for visitors daily. The Pampanito is one of the most popular historic vessels in the country and regularly attracts in excess of 100,000 visitors every year.
