Music and Dance of Bali
April 2nd 2008 23:45
Music and Dance of Bali is presented by Gamelan Sekar Jaya as they return to one of its favorite Berkeley stages with a unique program, including pieces ranging from traditional dances to new hybrid gamelan forms.
This special concert will feature the driving rhythms and interlocking melodies of three Balinese gamelan ensembles - orchestras of bronze percussion, gongs, drums and flutes accompanying the delicate movements of Balinese dance. The group will be led by two of Bali's most renowned musicians, I Dewa Ketut Alit Adnayna and I Dewa Putu Berata from Bali's renowned group Cudamani. The concert will open with a special treat: an appearance by fellow musical adventurers from the world music ensemble Gamelan X. They have taken gamelan in a new direction, cross-fertilizing Balinese music with other traditions ranging from the Balkans to electronica.
