Mission San Francisco de Asis

June 20th 2008 05:45
Mission San Francisco de Asis

Mission San Francisco de Asis was opened in 1776 and is the oldest surviving structure in San Francisco and is named for Saint Francis of Assisi.

The fact that the building weathered an earthquake and fire in 1906 is a testament to how well it was built. Today, there is no active church at the mission although it remains open daily for mass.
