Hysteria or Fragments of an Analysis of an Obsessional Neurosis
September 4th 2007 03:48
HYSTERIA is a comedy re-imagining the last moments of the renowned psychoanalyst Sigmund Freud.
The story synopsis showcases a dying Freud as he deals with several unexpected encounters with his physician; a desperate young woman who can’t keep her clothes on; and surrealist Salvador Dali - his biggest fan set in London in 1938.
The San Francisco Chronicle says: “Very funny! A handsomely staged and expertly performed production. The director and the actors keep the verbal and slapstick timing crisp. Terry Johnson, a popular playwright in England but rarely seen here won the Olivier Award for comedy when "Hysteria" premiered in '93. Fourteen years later, the comic elements are still sharp..and yes, hysterical. The expert designs combine for some impressively surreal effects. ”
