4th Annual CubaCaribe Festival of Dance & Music
April 24th 2008 21:45
The 4th annual CubaCaribe Festival presents three consecutive weekends of thought provoking performances, workshops, and lectures featuring the work of accomplished Afro-Cuban, Afro-Brazilian, African-American, and African choreographers, including Ramón Ramos Alayo, Luis Napoles, Danis "La Mora" Peréz Prades, Tannia Santiago, Portsha Jefferson, and Michelle Martin.
Drawing from a constellation of outstanding African-diaspora artists living in the Bay Area, CubaCaribe presents a suite of dance performances ranging from traditional folklore to experimental fusion. Like no other area in the United States, the Bay Area is a particularly strong mecca for Cuban expatriots trained in the performing arts by the Cuban government. As carriers of multiple historic lineages, these artists bring their expertise as choreographers, dancers, and musicians to the stage in intriguing partnerships.
